Cambodia Celebrates UPF Tenth Anniversary with Launch of National Peace Tour

Battambang, Cambodia—UPF-Cambodia commemorated the 10th anniversary of UPF by organizing a conference and launching a national “Peace Tour” in Battambang city in northwest Cambodia on September 20, 2015.  Among the 30 participants was a university chancellor, a director of a public school, an NGO leader, a UN representative, and a local government official.

The conference began with welcoming remarks, given by Mr. Hut Hen, director of UPF-Cambodia, Battambang, who was the emcee. In his remarks, Mr. Hen explained the background of the “UPF 10th Year Anniversary, Seminar on Directors’ Conference.” He also spoke about UPF and showed a video about the life and teachings of UPF founder, Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon. For the keynote speech, Mr. Hajime Saito, director of UPF-Indochina, read from the founder’s address at the inaugural assembly of UPF in 2005, entitled, “God’s Ideal Family: The Model for World Peace.”

After a networking break, Mr. Saing Sen, vice president of the International University- Battambang, spoke about his experience as an Ambassador for Peace.

Mr. Saito then gave a presentation on the “Attributes of True Love,” True love seeks to give first, he explained, and he also spoke about the universal principle of living for the sake of others and the role of leaders. In conclusion, he introduced several projects of UPF-Cambodia, including the “24 Provinces Youth Activities.” Several participants, including Mr. Roing Sarran, director of the Vannda Institute-Battambang shared, “We are willingly to join UPF’s program, especially for the youth activities.” Lt. Colonel Phin Phon, vice commander and chief of logistics of Pailin Province’s police said, “I would like to send my son and daughter to UPF’s youth training.”

The conference was also the kick-off for UPF-Cambodia’s “10th Anniversary Peace Tour.” Ten years ago, on November 27, 2005, UPF founders, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, came to Cambodia as part of a World Peace Tour where UPF was inaugurated in six continents. The tour will cover all of Cambodia’s 24 provinces and will conclude with a nationwide program in Phnom Penh in November.
