Siberian Peace Council Marks Human Rights Day

Novosibirsk, Russia - The Siberian Peace Council celebrated Human Rights Day together with Russia’s Constitution Day at a special meeting.

Ambassadors for Peace, public figures, writers and students attended the Dec. 14, 2014, meeting which was held by UPF-Russia’s Siberian branch in the Regional Scientific Library in the city of Novosibirsk. Appropriately, the library was showing a unique exhibition of books from its archive on the subject of "The Right to Peace."

At the meeting there were many reports and speeches on the subject of Russia's development; participants also mapped out an activity plan for working in 2015.

The solemn ceremony of awarding Larisa M. Yurtaeva, chair of the League of Women Voters of Siberia, the high title of Ambassador for Peace was a part of the event. The meeting ended with a musical performance and refreshments.

Getting to know Unification Thought

During the New Year holidays, five persons attended a one-day Unification Thought seminar on the theme of a culture of peace and human development. Dmitri Oficerov, secretary general of UPF-Russia, Siberian branch, gave the lectures. The participants discussed the fundamentals of a sustainable and ethical society and the role of the family in the character education of peacemakers. In February there will be another Unification Thought seminar, this time about the cause of human conflict and the principle for rebuilding destroyed relationships.
