St. Petersburg - Peace Council Hears Presentation on Moral Values

St. Petersburg, Russia - The North-West Russian Peace Council met on January 27 in St. Petersburg to review the tenth anniversary of the proposal for establishing an interreligious council at the UN and to observe World Interfaith Harmony Week.

The participants listened with great interest to the speech of the Secretary General of UPF-Eurasia, Mr. Jacques Marion, who spoke about the peacemaking initiatives of the Universal Peace Federation in Eurasia, based on universal moral values grounded in family values. Afterwards, the chair of the Peace Council, Tatyana Krasnosumova, reported about progress in the “Baltic Dialogue” project. The intrigued participants asked her some important questions.

A member of the organizational committee preparing for the Gagarin track-and-field super-marathon, Gennady Valughin, gave very interesting information. He said that the run will mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight (by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961). The route of the run is as follows: Karaganda, Dgeskazgan, Baikonur, Aralsk, Aktubinsk, Orenburg, Busuluk, Samara, Saratov, and Smelkovo (where Gagarin landed). The total length of the route is about 4000 km. Mr. Valughin invited participants to join in the run or recruit those who would like to participate.

Among the participants in the meeting were both adult and young Ambassadors for Peace.
