Congo-Brazzaville Assembly 2007

Three hundred people from the Republic of Congo attended UPF’s Assembly 2007 held at the House of the Speaker on December 14, 2007.

The welcoming address was read by the General Secretary, and peace prayers were offered by Bishops Emmanuel Dicka from the Old Roman Catholic church and Francis Gadenga, President of Christian Churches Community of Brazzaville.

Congratulatory remarks were read by H.E. Jean François Obembe, a former government minister, and Aimé Bokino, former Mayor of the 6th District.

H.E. Jean Obembe said: "After the Congolese war [1997-99] I was given responsibility for the Peace Commission in order to reestablish peace in the Congo. It was not easy, but we applied our wisdom and succeeded in bringing the Congolese people together so that the climate of peace that once prevailed can return to our country. When I was appointed as an Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation, I told myself that it was God’s will and was grateful that my small efforts to bring peace in our country were recognized by the UPF. After learning about Father Moon’s vision for universal peace, I realized that he is model for people around the world."

H.E. Aimé Bokino said: "When I was in office, I always worried about people asking for favors. When I was appointed an Ambassador for Peace by the UPF, I was pleased because one of the main principles of Ambassadors for Peace is to live for others. I can see that its founder follows those principles. Its vision for an ‘Abel-type’ United Nations offers hope for humanity."

The keynote speaker was Dr. Julien Moufonda.

Entertainment by the Young Ambassadors for Peace band was appreciated by all the Ambassadors for peace and guests.
