As a follow up to his visit to Jakarta, Indonesia in March 2006, Tony Blair, then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, launched an Indonesian-UK Islamic Advisory Group to promote better understanding between Islam and the West.

The National Peace Council (NPC) of Liberia was launched May 6 in Monrovia by the President of Liberia, Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who was represented by Youth & Sports Minister, Councellor Jamessetta Howard Wolokollie at the Monrovia City Hall. Support for the work of the NPC was declared by a representative from UNMIL, the UN mission in Liberia.

In December 2005, tensions arose in the Cronulla suburb of Sydney between local Australian residents and young people of Middle Eastern background. There was a dispute about how women were dressed at the beach. Muslim youth started sending messages by phone to all Middle Eastern and Lebanese youth to invite them to get together on the beach and fight the Australians. There was violence between both sides for several days.
