Around 25 Ambassadors for Peace attended a brainstorming session organized by UPF-France on January 26, 2008 in Paris. The main purpose was to launch working committees to prepare for the Global Peace Festival to be held in Paris in September.

12 New Ambassadors for Peace Appointed

On January 17 UPF-Cote d’Ivoire held a welcoming ceremony for the Ambassadors for Peace who received their appointments on December 27, 2007. The venue was the prestigious District Hall in Abidjan.

Developing Plans for 2008 in Senegal

Dakar, Senegal - Secretary General Mbaye DIOP gave a general report of UPF activities in the world, in Africa and in Senegal and also about a UPF conference in Mauritania the previous September. Twenty-two Ambassadors for Peace attended the meeting at the UPF headquarters.

What is the UPF model of peacebuilding? It is to bring people from opposite sides of a conflict together and encourage them to offer tangible, concrete acts of reconciliation. In 1607, the English established their first permanent settlement in North America and called it Jamestown. Women descendants of Colonial settlers and Native People chose to mark the 400th anniversary by gathering in a spirit of reconciliation in nearby Norfolk, Virginia.

Peace Council Elected in Albania

UPF-Albania held a one-day symposium with 140 participants on June 15, 2007, to form the National Peace Council. The symposium was held in Chateau Linza, on a hill five kilometers outside of Tirana, the capital city.

After registering the Universal Peace Federation in the Albanian Court, UPF-Albania decided to invite the 120 Ambassadors for Peace on the Albanian National Peace Council to a three-day symposium in order to give structure to UPF-Albania.

Ambassadors for Peace Conclude Ramadan Fast

UPF-Azerbaijan held a meeting in Baku on October 11, 2007, the last day of Ramadan. The event, which included a dinner for 200 participants, was sponsored and guided by Ambassador for Peace Dr Akif Kerimov, the President of "Kur Xazar."

Lebanon Peace Ambassadors Meet

Beirut, Lebanon - 20 Lebanese Ambassadors for Peace gathered at the Chase restaurant in Beirut on the morning of Saturday, October 13, 2007. Since the meeting coincided with Eid El Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, those Ambassadors for Peace who were able to attend sent special greetings to Muslim Ambassadors for Peace who were unable to be there.

New Ambassadors for Peace in Azerbaijan

UPF Azerbaijan concluded a successful meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, on October 11, 2007, the last day of Ramadan. The event, which included a dinner for 200 participants, was sponsored and guided by Ambassador for Peace Dr Akif Kerimov, the President of "Kur Xazar." He had invited his friends to receive Ambassador for Peace certificates. As it was the last day of Ramadan, he also invited everyone to eat Holy Food in order to conclude the fast.

In Amman, Jordan, Dr. Ghazi Tayyeb got a phone call one day last year from a friend who said, “Are you an Ambassador for Peace?” The soft-spoken former Commander-in-Chief of UN Forces in Croatia said yes.The caller replied, “Prove to me that you are really an Ambassador for Peace.”
