UPF-Paraguay Holds 2017 Year-End Event for Ambassadors for Peace

Paraguay-2017-12-21-UPF-Paraguay Holds 2017 Year-End Event for Ambassadors for Peace

Asunción, Paraguay—UPF–Paraguay marked the conclusion of its activities in 2017 with an event held on December 21, 2017 in Asunción with more than 80 Ambassadors for Peace.

During the program, eight new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, including Dr. Lucas Lanzoni, mayor of Ñemby city, near the capital Asunción, and Monsignor Rafael Ruiz Gaona, bishop of the Catholic Church in Paraguay. Dr. Lanzoni expressed his gratitude for the honor and his commitment to support UPF. Monsignor Gaona gave a brief but moving message recalling words spoken by Jesus on the importance of individual peace in order to reach universal peace.

Dr. Enrique Castro, an Ambassador for Peace and director of culture of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Paraguay’s unicameral legislature, also shared briefly about the present situation in Paraguay and asked everyone to live for the sake of others and thus together build a more just and united society and nation. Ms. Entela Mustafaj, a student in Paraguay, gave an interesting presentation about experiences growing up in Albania, before finding her faith, and spoke about her work in Paraguay with young Paraguayan students. “Miss Paraguay,” Yessica Daiana Ledezma Báez, offered two songs and asked the Ambassadors for Peace to pray for her upcoming trip to Colombia for her first international competition, a beauty contest involving participants from 33 Latin American countries, at which she will represent Paraguay. Mr. Evaristo Fernández, president of UPF-Paraguay, was honored by the Chamber of Deputies with the “Republic Award.” The award, which was presented by the president of the protocol and ceremonial department of the legislative branch, Dr. Víctor Ramos, is conferred to individuals who have taken noteworthy action for peace.

The event concluded with a raffle of Christmas baskets and, afterwards, everyone enjoyed a traditional Paraguayan-Brazilian dinner.
