Russian Peace Council Celebrates a Decade of a Culture of Peace

Moscow, Russia - At the Moscow House of Nationalities the Russian Peace Council held a session on June 2 on the theme: “International Decade of a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World, 2001 – 2011.” There was also an art exhibition of children from school № 1923 on the theme of the “History of my family in the history of my nation” and a photo exhibition on the theme “Our world is our home” by children in the city of Zelenograd, Moscow region.

They were part of the competition “Territory of Peace and Consent” organized on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory. The author of the project was the head of the Department of Children’s Diplomacy Locus standi, Ambassador for Peace Karina Kwazem.

The meeting was opened by the head of the National Cultures Department of the Moscow House of Nationalities, Lyudmila Khrol. Peace Council members discussed the education and personal identity of the young generation, using examples from family histories connected to war. Mrs. Ada Potapova, director of the Children’s Humanitarian Academy under the Leo Tolstoy Institute of Foreign Languages, spoke on “Leo Tolstoy about Education: Problems in modern education.” Mrs. Svetlana Dudnik, ateacher of school №1106 spoke on: "We Are Voting for Peace on Our Planet." Mrs. Elena Knyazeva, Director of the Mister and Miss University project, spoke on “Expanding Moral and Family Values and the Development of Social and Volunteer Activity among Youth.” Mr. Dmitry Oficerov, director of the UPF International Department, spoke on “Media for World Peace.”

Each speaker was followed by a musical performance of young and talented artists. Ambassadors for Peace, teachers, and young artists wholeheartedly supported the call to cultivate in children the sense of gratitude towards veterans, teachers, and parents as a foundation for a peaceful society.
