Training in Suriname for a Domestic Violence Hotline

Paramaribo, Suriname - Ambassadors for Peace participated in a training program on Nov. 30, 2013 about helping men with an impulse for domestic violence. Eleven people attended the five-hour training offered by Dr. Iwoma Smoktunowiscz, a psychiatrist from the Netherlands.

UPF-Suriname is advocating for the establishment of a hotline where people who become angry easily and tend to cause trouble in their family can call for help. Dr. Smoktunowiscz taught  trainees how to talk with people who have poor self control and how to recognize people they can help in this manner and those they cannot help. Then she led them in role-playing conversations between callers and people staffing a hotline.
