Interfaith Programs

UPF organizes programs that help build understanding, respect and cooperation among people of different faiths.

Washington, D.C. – Thousands of peacemakers came to celebrate peace on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol on August 9 at the Global Peace Festival USA. The gathering, billed as the largest interfaith and multicultural event ever held in Washington D.C., was the second in a series of fifteen Global Peace Festivals this year.

The Universal Peace Federation-Toronto held its monthly meeting on May 3, 2008. This meeting, as was the April one, was very well attended. Dr. Hoosein Auckbaraullee, UPF Canada Central District Co-Director, gave opening remarks and introduced the participants.

On March 19, we welcomed the Conseil de leaders interreligieux de Montréal-Nord (Montreal North Interreligious Leaders Council), who spoke about the council and their activities to date. Nearly 40 people attended. As the presentation was in French, Anthony Mansour, director of the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism, graciously translated into English

Berlin, Germany - Over 70 Ambassadors for Peace, guests and members of the UPF Peace Council gathered in Berlin-Lichterfelde March 14-16, 2008, to discuss ”On the way to a peaceful society.”

UPF's February interfaith meeting on the 20th was one of the best so far, with 24 guests including two priests from the Traditional Catholic Church (not affiliated with Rome) and the pastor of a major Anglican church downtown.

The fifth annual Interfaith Breakfast at Montreal City Hall honoring the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Jan. 21, 2008 was opened with prayers offered by various faith leaders.

An International Conference on Interfaith Dialogue towards Global Peace at the Peace Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, unanimously passed a resolution entitled "Brussels Peace Declaration on Religious Coexistence" on December 1, 2007. Participants discussed the importance of interfaith harmony and conflict resolution to combat extremism, intolerance, hatred, and violence in the name of religion.
