Consultation in Tbilisi on an Interreligious Council

Tbilisi, Georgia - An Interfaith Consultation was held by UPF at the Office of the Foundation of Development of Human Resources in Tbilisi, Georgia on September 25. The event was attended by 15 participants, including Mrs. Dalila Khorava, former Minister of Health of Abkhazia; Mr. Mikhail Aydinov, Chairman of Russian-speaking Journalists of Georgia; and Dr. Indira Dzagania, Professor and President of the Society for Intercultural Relations.

After a presentation about the proposal for an interreligious council at the United Nations by UPF-Eurasia Secretary General Jacques Marion, proposals were offered by participants: It was felt that Georgia should participate in the promotion of such a council. Authorities are open to interreligious efforts, and an interreligious committee already exists under the Human Rights Ombudsman’s supervision. Suggestions were made about communicating the proposal to national officials.
