Goa Governor Stresses Need for Interfaith Dialogue

Excerpt of a report in the Navahind Times, April 29, 2007:

The Governor, Mr. S. C. Jamir has highlighted the importance of having an inter-faith dialogue to achieve peace in the world. He said the world does not need weapons of mass destruction but tools of mass compassion.

The Governor was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of a seminar on ‘Innovative approaches to peace in a changing global environment' organised jointly by Universal Peace Federation of India, The International Centre, Goa and Institute Menezes Braganza at the International Centre, Dona Paula today. Co-chairman of the Universal Peace Federation of India, Mr Eduardo Faleiro graced the function.

Speaking further, the Governor highlighted the importance of spirituality and said that most of the ills can be traced back to a global spiritual crisis. He said pure spirituality came first and then all the religions, followed. He said that all the prophets and all founders of religions experienced pure spirituality. "They had a vision of the mankind, they had vision of man's happiness, but today the world is unhappy due to material pursuits," he felt.
