IAED: The Economy of Kim Il Sung: Can Kim Jong Il learn the limits of Juche and the planned economy?
Tuesday 16 August 2022

REGISTRATION

The DPRK under the leadership of Kim Jong Un faces many challenges to accomplish their goals of National Self-Reliance under the Soviet model of a planned economy -  one that is cut off from the international financial system of the free world.  This program will take a look back at the cultural context and economic realities in the early days under Kim Il Sung.  What did he inherit at the end of the Japanese colonial rule and what communications and decisions were made in building the economy?  Could there be lessons that the grandson, Kim Jong Un, might learn and apply today to deliver a more efficient and productive economy for the future of North Korea?  Our presenter has researched old cables from that era that shed light on interesting facts, communications, and stories.
