West Meets East In Northeast Asia: A Value Proposition
In this first in a series, a panel of distinguished academicians explores the impact of culture and values that drive society and politics in Northeast Asia. To what extent do the interplay of the East’s Confucian and the West’s Christian values mitigate the political dynamics of democracy and authoritarianism in South and North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan and Japan? Would eschewing the dialectic and finding harmonies within the competing value systems harbor the potential to resolve these pre-eminent conflicts, heal historical resentments and deliver the elusive peace?
