Invite you to a UPF webinar on 28th March 2021 from 3:00 – 4:30pm Sydney time. The theme of the webinar is:

“Peace and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula – Transcending the present and building the future”

There are many critical challenges facing our world at this time, from poverty and climate change to conflict and inequality. At the same time, the rise of civil society initiatives and the expansion of "track two" diplomatic efforts involving people-to-people relations, provide new dynamics that can complement and support the work of governments in the search for solutions to our world's most pressing problems.

On the Korean Peninsula following World War II, people with a common history, culture, and language were divided by the Cold War struggle between superpowers. Despite efforts by the United Nations for the unification and rehabilitation of Korea, the Korean War ended without a peace treaty. An uneasy armistice between North and South Korea still exists, 75 years on.

Peace is not simply the absence of war or a term that applies only to the relationships among nations. Peace is an essential quality that should characterise all relationships. Harmony and unity can be achieved and the ideal of peace can be realised only when we are motivated by genuine love to live for the benefit of others. As Mahatma Gandhi put it, ‘The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace’.

The UPF is a global network of individuals and organisations dedicated to building a world of peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity as one universal family under our Heavenly Parent.

This webinar will bring together experts from diplomatic, academic and civil society arenas to examine the prospects for the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula today. Please join us for what promises to be a highly insightful and important discussion.

Regards,

John Adamedes
