New York, United States - Declaring the world to be at a pivotal "historic turning point," Reverend Dr. Sun Myung Moon asked an international peace gathering to consider, "Can everlasting world peace take root, or are we doomed to repeat the 20th century's dark and oppressive history of war and conflict?" Addressing a standing-room-only house in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on September 12, 2005, he spoke on the topic, "God's Ideal Family: The Model for World Peace." The address marked the inauguration of the Universal Peace Federation. Below is the address given that day and throughout the world during UPF peace tours and rallies on six continents. On many occasions, Father Moon elaborated on various points in the speech.

Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace

The predecessor to UPF was called the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace. That organization's inauguration took place on February 6, 1999 in Seoul, Korea.
