Nigeria: Health for Peace Assembly
Friday, April 7, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

National Merit Award House
Maitama, Abuja, Nigeria

A commemoration of World Health Day, which is celebrated around the world every April 7 under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization

As part of activities to commemorate the 2017 World Health Day, UPF-Nigeria is convening a special Health for Peace Assembly at the National Merit Award House on April 7, 2017.

The special assembly will bring together outstanding health educators and other professionals, representatives of health institutions, agencies and organizations, as well as Ambassadors for Peace in the health sector.

The assembly will discuss the 2017 World Health Day theme, “Depression: Let’s Talk,” and also will examine other contemporary health challenges facing Nigeria and the urgent need to work together toward the realization of universal access to health care.

The special assembly is expected to attract about 200 high-level professionals and representatives from various institutions, agencies and organizations as well as Ambassadors for Peace. The event also will be used for the launch of the UPF-Nigeria Health Education for Peace Initiative and the formation of the Ambassadors for Peace Committee on Health.

The Health Education for Peace Initiative seeks to engage professionals from the health sector on the connection between health and the universal principles of peace. The UPF-Nigeria presentation will include a general introduction to universal health education, the root cause of diseases and ill health, and the principle of restoration of a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on how health professionals can contribute to building a peaceful Nigeria by 2020.

Some outstanding health professionals will be appointed as Ambassadors for Peace, while health institutions, agencies and organizations making outstanding contributions to health delivery services in Nigeria also will be recognized.
The event will be held on April 7, 2017, at the National Merit Award House in the Maitama district of the capital, Abuja, Nigeria from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
