Africa Day

Africa Day Commemorated in Seoul

Korea-2010-05-25-Africa Day Commemorated in Seoul

Seoul, Korea - An Africa Day Celebration with representatives of 17 nations in attendance took place at the Raemian Hall in Anguk, Seoul on May 25. The prime minister of Zimbabwe, Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, gave the opening address.

The Ambassador of Kenya expressed his delight to see representatives of the North African nations, since they traditionally connect only with Arab celebrations.

Art work from each nation was displayed along with typical food from that region. There was a family atmosphere with the food being prepared by the wives of the ambassadors and the embassy staff memers. Although the place was packed, the food was abundant and visitors had plenty to choose from. In fact, the venue, while bigger than last year, was still too small to accommodate all the guests.

Dr. Colette Takigawa and Mrs. Elizabeth B. de Jong attended the event on behalf of UPF-Korea. Mrs. de Jong, who represents the United Kingdom in UPF-Korea, is originally from Africa, and Dr. Takigawa from France has served as a volunteer with medical teams in Africa.
