Africa Day

Africa Day Commemorated in Angola

Luanda, Angola - UPF-Angola and the Youth Federation for World Peace organized a celebration of Africa Day on May 25 the theme of "Peace and Security in Africa."

Pastor Timoteo, leader of the Porta dos Ceus (Gate of Heaven) Pentecostal Church, lectured about youth and spiritual problems in this time of global crisis. He explained key aspects of the current situation worldwide and how they affect the youth of Africa.

The second lecture was given by Rev. Pedro Sambu Kinambuta, Secretary General of UPF-Angola, who talked about the cause of conflict and the responsibility of families in Africa. Problems of migration, poverty, wars, etc., receive much attention, but he explained that African families need to understand the cause of such problems and educate their children in universal values so their children can grow up and take up leadership roles as good parents, good educators, and responsible citizens.

Several participants expressed appreciation for the important information given in the presentations. They were very interested in information about UPF activities around the world, especially in partnership with the United Nations and the African Union. They see the potential of UPF to educate a network of Ambassadors for Peace who are contributing to world peace. Several new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed, and the meeting ended with a toast to families.

Five Angola radio stations broadcast 13 hours of live music programming on May 25 in honor of Africa Day.
