IAED-UK Sees Business as a Force for Good
London, United Kingdom—UPF’s International Association for Peace and Economic Development (IAED) was inaugurated in the United Kingdom.
IAED is rooted in the principles of Universal Peace Federation and the belief that business can be a much needed force for good. It seeks to build a network of business, government and economic thought leaders committed to driving economic development toward establishing a global environment of interdependence and mutual prosperity.
Approximately 30 participants attended the event, which was held on December 15, 2021, in the UPF Peace Embassy.
Hon. Paul Clark, a former UK minister of transport, cut the ribbon to unveil the IAED logo together with Dr. Michael Balcomb, the Europe and Middle East president of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), an organization that is affiliated with UPF. Robin Marsh, secretary general of UPF-UK, moderated the event.
The chairman of IAED-UK, global peace activist Dr. Abdul Basit Syed, who organized the event, commented during his speech, “Strengthening the economy is the only way to support peace in this world.”
Alongside the inspiring speeches there was an Ambassador for Peace awards ceremony for business leaders, followed by a celebratory dinner.
As the founder and chair of World Humanitarian Drive, a partner organization of UPF, Dr. Abdul Basit Syed presented the Regal British Award to Hon. Paul Clark for his humanitarian work involving children’s education in rural parts of Africa.
IAED-UK announced that it will hold an event in the UK Parliament on April 5, 2022, to commemorate International Day of Conscience, a day initiated by the king of Bahrain to kindle people’s consciences to work for peace.
