S!Nergy Competition in Congo Brazzaville

UPF-Congo-Brazzaville—In order to support young people in the realization of their projects related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace chapter Congo Brazzaville organized the second edition of the S!Nergy competition Congo 2021 in collaboration with the Universal Peace Federation. The event was held Sunday, November 21, 2021 under the theme: “Youth Action for Peace and Sustainable Development,” at the headquarters of the Universal Peace Federation where nearly 60 people participated face-to-face and online. A local television station covered the event.

The program started at 3:00 p.m. with introductory remarks and welcome from secretary general IAYSP-Congo, Yannick Kasongo, emcee for the activity, followed by the introduction of the S!Nergy project: “S!NERGY (Students * Ideas * Energy), which is a public-speaking competition allowing students to share their projects and their innovative ideas. The presentations offered solutions to current social problems while being aligned with the United Nations SDGs. A panel of distinguished judges from the community selected the best presentation(s). Winners received prizes for being innovative and creative. After that there was the introduction of the members of the jury:

  1. President of the jury, Mr. Augustin Zodji, secretary general of UPF Pointe-Noire, and chairman and CEO of the Global Development Company.
  2. Vice president of the jury, Mr. Maixent Milolo, leader of the FFWPU Pointe-Noire, and manager of human resources.
  3. Member of the jury, Ferdinand Elenga, coordinator of computer science students.

Then there was the presentation of the candidates:

Candidate No. 1: Mr. Yonnel Gustaven Jordyven Bassafoula, graphic designer, community manager, founder and visionary of the Coach Par Excellence platform.

Candidate No. 2: Mr. Jarèle Ronèle Mpio, holder of a license in international economics, host of TV shows, and founder of the youth reintegration and training center.

Next on the program was a video showcasing the candidates’ projects. The online votes were then counted.

Candidate No. 1: Mr. Bassafoula, received 48 views on YouTube or 10.5 points.

Candidate No. 2: Mr. Mpio, received 501 views on YouTube or 105 points.

The president of the jury, Mr. Zodji Augustin, proceeded with the deliberation of the final results.

In conclusion, coming in second in this edition of the S!Nergy Congo 2021 Competition’s was candidate number 1, Mr. Bassafoula, who had a final mark of 127.5/300 points.

The champion of the S!Nergy Congo 2021 Competition was candidate number 2, Mr. Mpio, with a final mark of 260/300 points.

The vice-president of the jury, Mr. Milolo, read the minutes of the competition, and in turn the members of the jury made remarks to the candidates. This was followed by the presentation of prizes to the candidates who then gave their reflections of the competition.

The second part of the ceremony was devoted to the graduation of the participants of the 3-day training seminar for IAYSP leaders under the theme “The involvement of YSP leaders in the process of training young people.” The seminar took place on October 12, 13 and 17, 2021 at the IAYSP national headquarters in Pointe-Noire with 6 participants and 4 presenters. The activity ended around 5:30 p.m. with some overview photos.
