Novosibirsk Goes Green by Collecting Batteries

Russia-2017-04-15-Novosibirsk Goes Green by Collecting Batteries

Novosibirsk, Russia—“Preserve Nature by Collecting Used Batteries!” was the theme of a program held at the Novosibirsk Regional Youth Library.

The program, which was held on April 15, was inspired by the Russian president’s declaration of 2017 as the Year of Ecology in Russia. The Siberian chapter of UPF had launched the battery collection campaign in 2013 in order to promote the United Nations’ Program for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The enthusiastic employees of the library created a cultural environment in which university students and schoolchildren joyfully competed in the interesting and fascinating intellectual game "Man and Nature," which included master classes and a fashion show of clothes and other products made from recyclables. After that, the young people competed in timely projects on protecting the world’s nature and animals. The projects of "Eco-Challenge" and "Green Sunday" awoke heated discussions.

The jury consisted of Larisa Rakityanskaya, a member of the Journalists Association of Russia; Alena Postoyalko, a representative of the Raw Alternative company; and Dmitry Oficerov, secretary general of UPF-Siberia.

The Universal Peace Federation would like to express its sincere gratitude to the employees of the library and the participants of the battery collection campaign. UPF would like to encourage more people to visit the Youth Library for books and events, and also to bring used batteries to the library for recycling. Through these actions they can support of the Year of Ecology and the Sustainable Development Goals and stimulate positive changes in our society.
