Dancing Transcends Borders in Kiev

Kiev, Ukraine - The third international children-and-youth choreography festival and contest on the theme “Dancing Beyond Borders-2012” that took place in Kiev on April 6 and 7 was a real pageant of creativity and talent. The initiators of this remarkable event were the Ballet Academy of Ukraine, Universal Peace Federation, center of culture “Sun,” and international charitable foundation “Art Beyond Borders.” Honored Artist of Ukraine and Ambassador for Peace Alvina Kalchenko was artistic director of the festival.

The festival that attracted about 230 talented children from Ukraine, Italy, Japan, and Canada once again proved that the international language of dance is understood by everyone.

On the second day of the contest, the jury had a hard time to choose winners among the best in three age categories. The grand ceremony of awarding the winners was opened by a gala-concert on the stage of the Shevchenko National Opera. Under thunderous applause of the audience, the talented youth received diplomas, medals, and gifts.

Every ballet dancer’s dream is to perform on the stage of the National Opera. That day the dream of many young dancers came true. Appearing on the stage together with the participants were stars of the national ballet: Olga Kifyak, Honored Artist of Ukraine Anna Dorosh and Jan Vanya; and laureates of international contests Ekaterina Kalchenko and Dmitry Chebotar. A special gift for all was performance of the guest star, Honored Artist of Russia, Anastasia Volochkova. The world-renowned ballerina, together with her “little swan” Liza Lysova, performed the song “Ballerina” and then, accompanied by her acrobatic ballet troupe, she danced a bright tango.

The program demonstrated that the beautiful, harmonious, and noble art of ballet truly can unite people beyond borders.
