Living for Others Awards Given in Sydney

Sydney, Australia - UPF-Australia hosted the seventh annual Living for Others Award event on November 12. There was a full house of 120 attendees in the main hall of the Oceania Peace Embassy in Sydney.

UPF started this annual event in 2005 in order to promote a culture of living for the sake of others, which is one of UPF’s core values, by awarding worthy recipients who are selflessly leading a life of sacrifice and service to others around them. Over the past six years, the Living for Others Award event developed and has became UPF’s signature program; it has also been receiving support from the wider community.

This year congratulatory messages for the event were sent from the Federal Opposition Leader Hon. Tony Abbott, the State Premier of New South Wales Hon. Barry O’Farrell, State Opposition Leader Hon. John Robertson, and chair of the Community Relations Commission of New South Wales Dr. Stepan Kerkyasharian.

Nine worthy recipients, including one youth recipient, received a Living for Others Award. Then in a further ceremony, five of the awardees, together with 11 other UPF supporters, were appointed Ambassadors for Peace.

The program included congratulatory addresses by the Hon. David Clarke (MLC), New South Wales Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, and Dr. Dong Woo Kim, Chairman of UPF-Oceania. Entertainment was provided by 25 young violinists of the Chinese Migrant Welfare Association Violin Ensemble, harpist and vocalist Elizabeth Lowrencev, and the UPF Youth Choir. The program concluded with a delicious afternoon tea. It was a joyous and uplifting time for awardees to celebrate with their families and friends and Ambassadors for Peace in the beautiful Peace Embassy.
