Ambassadors for Peace Energized by Broad Support for Clean-up

Hardly did we know that the tree-planting project along the Nairobi River would become such a lively event with energetic volunteers from all over Nairobi and its environs working consistently in a display of unity.

The Global Peace Festival spirit dominated, with yellow, blue, and red T- shirts attracting several onlookers, whose optimism made them join in. People noticed the bold words 'ONE FAMILY UNDER GOD' on the back of each T-shirt, ushering in a massive success of people working together in one accord. Capturing the essence of Kenya’s pride, the Ambassadors for Peace brought great energy and heart to the occasion.

Just as last year, the river beautification project took place in two different places. The first team armed with water cans, spades, and other tools marched in troops towards the scene of action signaling significant of division of labour. It turned into a festive atmosphere of tunes and cheers when an official from the Nairobi City Council joined in to offer necessary criteria on planting. This project together with other key partners has been quoted as having the best response not only in tree planting but also in Nairobi River cleaning.

The other team joined a hundred students from Pindoria Samaj High School west of Nairobi, and after a successful session where trees were planted, they all convened in a lecture room to listen to brief remarks from their staff: “Thank you all, for what you have done this morning. We must preserve our environment by partnering with others, with whom we share the same vision.”

Then the whole room burst into cheers as one student marched in style toward the platform and spoke: “Good afternoon. I know everybody is happy and enjoying refreshments, aren’t you? This morning we have expressed our willingness to work as a team, and to do what we have done. Indeed it has been very successful, and eeh ... this afternoon we will march toward the same venue and continue.”Even before he concluded, the whole room was full of cheers and prolonged clapping, a clear demonstration of the spirit of One Family under God. Several dignitaries thanked UPF for its good performance and emphasized the need to monitor the project's progress.

In a nutshell, the words of the Hon. Lillian Samaniego, a senator from Paraguay, were well reflected in Kenya: “The best way to achieve sustainable growth in our country is through international cooperation."
