Teaching Character Education at Palau High School Print E-mail
By Tim & Margaret Sisserson
Friday, April 29, 2011

Koror, Palau - A presentation about the UPF Character Education curriculum, Discovering the Real Me, was made at the Palau High School on April 29.

After introducing the UPF Character Education program, Mr. Tim Sisserson read the stories of Bill and Clara in chapter 4 of the book for Grade 11.

Then Mrs. Margaret Sisserson discussed positive and negative attitudes with the students. She talked about the three life goals and gave examples in the Palauan cultural context. The Discovering the Real Me curriculum promotes the following three life goals: (1) becoming a person of mature character, (2) establishing loving relationships and family, and (3) making a contribution to society.

Students carried out activities in groups of three. They were introduced to the Universal Peace Federation's website and the New World Encyclopedia as tools for research.

The students were from Mr. Mark Orruken's class on tourism and hospitality. The students and teacher expressed interest in a follow-up presentation.
