Krymsk, Russia - UPF-Russia set up a Religious Youth Service volunteer camp on July 20 to help clean up after flash floods hit Krymsk in southwestern Russia on July 7 after heavy rains of about 275 millimeters (10.8 in) fell over the region. Volunteers and donations are being sought to help residents. The equivalent of three to four months' of rain water formed torrents that rushed into this area near the Black Sea coast. In the worst calamity in the region during modern times, more than 140 people died in Krymsk, a town of about 57,000 people. Young people will help wash and disinfect houses and apartments, hang wall paper, and clean streets. The work camp is expected to bring together young people of different nationalities and religions for an experience of peaceful coexistence and effective interaction. It will also prove that more than a dividing factor, religion can have a unifying and uplifting impact. In addition to volunteers, donations are needed for medical supplies, disinfectant, and bedding. The project is being carried out in the name of Religious Youth Service with leaders from UPF-Siberia.
