Forum in Bratislava on Korean Division and Reunification
By UPF - Slovakia
Monday, June 18, 2012
Bratislava, Slovakia - The local chapter of UPF organized a second event with Korea in the spotlight on June 18. The Korean cultural evening held in March had attracted many guests, which encouraged UPF to hold one more "Korean event" before the holiday season. Long-time friends and supporters of UPF were invited, as well as some new guests. Since the weather was extremely hot and the small meeting room had no air-conditioning, it was remarkable that 21 guests came.
The lecture was given by UPF-Slovakia Secretary General Milos Klas. At the start he showed a short film about the Little Angels tour to the 16 nations which contributed troops to defend the South during the Korean War. Their performances and the story behind the founding of the ballet company opened the hearts of guests. Then he outlined the driving forces behind the war, the division, and the need for reunification of the Korean Peninsula. He explained the activities of UPF to address barriers between North and South Korea and the visits of the youngest son of its Founder to North Korea last December. Another highlight was the report about the current "Strong Korea" focus, which aroused considerable interest.
The diverse presentation lasted one hour and a half; then followed some discussion about whether the end of Communism was a "natural development" or a "miracle."
At the end a video was shown of the Little Angels performing the "drum dance." The sounds of the drums and swift movements of the dancers delighted the audience very much.
A third event focusing on Korea is planned for September.
