UN International Day of Families 2010

Day of Families Celebrated in Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia - UPF Zambia Chapter celebrated the UN International Day of Families on May 20. The event took place in the Peace Embassy Building. The celebration gathered people from different backgrounds, including teachers, members of the clergy, students, business people, and members of UPF-Zambia. This year's theme was “The Impact of Migration on Families Around the World.”

The opening remarks were given by the Chairman of UPF-Zambia, Rt. Hon. Gen. Malimba N. Masheke. According to him, “Most families have migrated around the world because of wars, social, or economical factors,” and “each individual needs to be educated about the impact of migration on families; it's not on the shoulders of the UN or the government."

Two educational groups were formed of people who speak the same language. They plan to counsel families and teach good family values.

The Ministry of Community Development of Zambia held a celebration on May 15. It was proposed that next year's celebration be held in conjunction with the ministry.
