UPF-Nigeria Honored for Interfaith Program

Abuja, Nigeria—UPF-Nigeria has received an honorable mention in the HM King Abdullah II of Jordan World Interfaith Harmony Week 2017 Prize.

The Nigerian chapter of UPF was recognized for its celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week 2017, organized together with the United Religions Initiative (URI)-West Africa.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II and his cousin Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad were the ones who in 2010 first proposed the United Nations resolution to found World Interfaith Harmony Week. The commemoration takes place in the first week of February every year.

More than 120 guests attended the Nigerian celebration, titled “Special Conference of Religious Educators, Leaders and Organizations on Interreligious Peace,” which was held on February 4 at the National Merit Award House in Abuja’s Maitama district.

UPF-Nigeria learned about the honor in an email sent by the prize selection committee on March 18. The event organized by UPF with URI was one of three runners-up for the King Abdullah II of Jordan Prize.

Of the 79 applications received, the prize committee selected the following three organizations for the top honors:

  • First Prize: Calgary Interfaith Council, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
  • Second Prize: International Forum Bosnia’s Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Third Prize: PL84U AL-SUFFA, London, United Kingdom

    United States Senate

  • Interfaith Harmony Breakfast

UPF-Nigeria congratulates the winners and to all those who took part in World Interfaith Harmony Week 2017.

The awards ceremony will take place in the last week of April 2017 in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
