UN International Day of Families 2016

International Day of Families Observed in Peru

Lima, Peru—UPF-Peru celebrated the International Day of Families 2016 by holding three events, in Lima, Trujillo and at the Peruvian Congress.

Lima

The first event took place on May 15 at the headquarters of UPF-Peru and the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification-Peru (FFWPU-Peru), an affiliated organization, in the Miraflores district.

Mr. Alberto Florido, president of FFWPU-Peru, gave a presentation on the value of the family.

Dr. Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru, presented awards to three families in recognition of their hard work in the past year devoted to Home Group and Family Centre activities.

Later, members of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles-Peru (CARP-Peru) made a theatrical presentation based on a story of UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon. The event concluded with a celebratory luncheon.

Trujillo

On May 18, in the Esperanza district of Trujillo, regional representatives of UPF-Peru organized an event at the Civic Centre, which was co-sponsored by the local mayor. During the event, couples who had been married for more than 30 years were recognized. Each of them shared about their lives and how the teachings of Rev. Moon and his wife, UPF Co-Founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, had helped them strengthen their family relationships.

Peruvian Congress

Finally, concluding UPF’s celebration of the International Day of Families 2016 in Peru, on May 20, UPF, in cooperation with Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano, held an event at the Peruvian Congress, in a historical room dedicated to the renowned Peruvian naval officer and hero of the Naval Battle of Angamos during the War of the Pacific (1879–1883), Admiral Miguel Grau.

Dr. Lescano opened the meeting, sharing with the audience the problems Peru faces at the moment due to dysfunctional families.

Keynote speakers also included the president of the Hindu Ashram in Lima, who gave interesting insights into marriage traditions in India.

Dr. Patricia Contador, a lawyer and wife of Congressman Lescano, emphasized the need to recognize and understand UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message for this year’s Day.

Dr. Jones shared some words of Rev. Moon that emphasize love, life and lineage as key factors in the creation of strong and stable families.

Also, various committee presidents of the UPF Peace Council of Peru gave reports about their activities and plans for 2016.

The event concluded with an invitation to the Ambassadors for Peace in attendance to join the Council’s committees and help UPF-Peru contribute more to the nation.
