Ambassadors for Peace

UPF-Peru Visits National Space Center

Pucusana, Peru—Forty-three Ambassadors for Peace in Peru visited the recently completed CNOIS National Satellite Image Operations Center in Pucusana, a district located in the coastal desert about a one hour drive south from the capital, Lima, in Lima province.

The Ambassadors for Peace gathered at the at the CONIDA (National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development) space agency in San Isidro district in Lima to travel to Pucusana. They were received at the satellite center by FAP (Peruvian Air Force) Major General Carlos Caballero León, who is the institutional head of CONIDA, and his staff.

The Ambassadors for Peace entered the auditorium where a conference was being held on the development of a project that was launched two years ago and that benefits Peru with the capture of satellite images and works with other national agencies for the exercise of their functions and for the welfare of the population.

The project was initiated from a need of the state to have space information available from its own sources. The satellite images are high cost; the cost of one image is about the same cost as a new car.

At the end of the keynote address, Gen. Caballero greeted and congratulated UPF-Peru president, Dr. Trevor Jones, for bringing the group of Ambassadors for Peace to visit CNOIS.

Afterwards, the Ambassadors for Peace enjoyed a delicious lunch and then went to see the operations room. They finished the tour receiving a present and were thanked for their visit.

This event is part of a series of cultural and other activities that UPF-Peru is organizing this year for Ambassadors for Peace.
