Washington, D.C - The Global Peace Festival will host a Food Drive for Peace on Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm in various locations around the D.C. area. This will give every participant in the Global Peace Festival an opportunity to contribute to the Million Acts of Service and Kindness.

Hunger is one of the biggest problems facing America today. Food banks all across the country are struggling to feed the people that depend on them. Rising fuel costs, a weak dollar, and decline in food production are making it harder for people to get enough to eat.

According to Capital Area Food Bank, there are 633,000 residents at risk of hunger in the DC metropolitan area, 200,000 of which are children. One third of all DC residents are at risk of, or suffering from, hunger.

The Global Peace Festival event on August 9 provides an opportunity to help those in need. There are three locations available for food drop-off:

• Service Fair and Cultural Expo located on the National Mall between 3rd and 4th Streets
• Capitol Hill Club located near the Capitol South Metro Station
• Union Station

Suggestions for non-perishable food donations:

• Boxed meals - pasta, rice, potatoes
• Canned meals - stews, chili, macaroni & cheese
• Canned vegetables and fruits
• Canned fish or meat - salmon, tuna, chicken
