G. Rompani de Pacheco: Address to World Summit 2014

Address to World Summit 2014, Seoul, Korea, August 9-13, 2014

Spanish

When I saw the list of speakers for the Summit, I was grateful that I have been designated to speak at the first session, because I can assure you that there will be such magnificent speeches later that it would be very embarrassing to appear after them.

I thank Dr. Thomas Walsh, president of the UPF, for the trust and honor he conferred upon me letting me be part of the UPF Presiding Council, sharing with such distinguished personalities like Secretary General Tageldin Hamad and my friend Jose de Venecia.

Peace, Security and Human Development, which is the main subject of this summit, have been the concern of humanity since time immemorial. Each of us here helps build it from our own country, from the place where he or she has been born and has chosen to live. That’s why we are here. We are not going to solve or fix world problems, but we will all go home richer, with our minds open to proceed and act by listening and interchanging experiences, projects, and presentations.

I am absolutely convinced that the basis for achieving the much-desired peace, the much-desired security and human development lies in the family. It is no secret that when a family is grounded in values, in most cases the children follow the example of their parents. This must be accompanied by a formative education in order to instill all aspects of knowledge that can help open the pathways for growth. But anyway, education begins and ends with family.

I want to offer my respects to Dr. Hak-Ja Han Moon, widow of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who is carrying on her shoulders this legacy left by her husband, which she keep pushing forward with a Cyclopean effort.

On behalf of the Presiding Council of UPF and Dr. Charles S. Yang and Dr. Thomas Walsh, I bring these words of welcome. Welcome to all of you.

This World Summit 2014 has a huge significance. This is a difficult time for humanity, but we have the privilege to hear first-hand from the protagonists of history.
