| Peace Education Offered at Lanao Del Norte Festival |

From October 27-30, 2008, a Global Peace Festival was held at the Mindanao Convention Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. Headed by Governor Khalid Q. Dimaporo and Dr. Maria Luisa Mutia of the Department of Education, the GPF main event was attended by 14,000 participants from academia, government, the youth sector, and a number of NGOs. Prior to the main event, all the delegates participated in the Peace Village program organized by the Department of Education. The youth delegation underwent a four-day Peace Education Program within the Peace Village. The educators also attended a Teachers Conference on Values Education. During the closing ceremony, Hon. Jesli Lapus, Secretary of the Department of Education, spoke before the audience and congratulated all the organizers of GPF. The Global Peace Festival in Tubod was one of 12 being planned for the Philippines in 2008, following up on the success of the Global Peace Festival in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, in September. |
