Australians Awarded for ‘Living for Others’

Australia-2017-12-04-Australians Awarded for ‘Living for Others’

Sydney, Australia—Four outstanding individuals received Living for Others Awards from UPF-Australia in appreciation of their public-mindedness.

The ceremony took place on December 4, 2017, at the Oceania Peace Embassy in Sydney city.

The 80 attendees enjoyed a pleasant evening over a light supper, supporting the four worthy awards recipients:

  • Sharon Minniecon, a distinguished Aboriginal community worker
  • Hassan Moussa, an employment mentor and charity worker
  • Sameer Qasim, who is engaged in humanitarian activities as the producer of National Iraqi TV based in Sydney
  • Suzanne Spence, an advocate and activist against human trafficking, modern-day slavery and sexual abuse of young women and children.

Following an introduction by emcee Jynene Helland, Aboriginal elder Pearl Wymarra offered the traditional Acknowledgment to People and Country and a prayer. The Australian Violin Academy Ensemble then gave an impressive performance.

A UPF introductory video was shown, followed by a welcome and message by Greg Stone, the regional chair of UPF for Oceania.

After receiving their award, each of the four honorees spoke of the reasons why they “live for others.”

After the awards presentations, a concluding musical performance was given. The ceremony ended with the appointment of nine new Ambassadors for Peace (including the four awardees) and the acknowledgment of the sponsors.

The Living for Others Awards ceremony continues as a hallmark event of Universal Peace Federation Australia.
