Montevideo, Uruguay—“Values and Culture of Peace,” was the theme of a special event UPF and the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) of Uruguay and Argentina organized on November 28, 2015 at the Peace Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital.

Values and Culture of Peace

Welcoming remarks were given by journalist, Ms. María Rosa Neme; Mrs. Hyunjoo Park; and Mrs. Elena Da Silva de Méndez, president, secretary general, and a member of the event sponsor committee of WFWP.

The speakers of the “Values and Culture of Peace” session were Ambassadors for Peace, Mrs. Graciela Rompani de Pacheco, a member of the UPF International’s Global Peace Council; Pastor Alba Rosa Contardo; and Captain Nancy Galli, as well as Mr. Raúl Rey Banegas and Mr. Miguel Werner, secretary generals of UPF in Uruguay and Argentina, respectively.

During the break, two olive trees were planted: one by WFWP and another by UPF representatives from Argentina and Uruguay, in Uruguay’s National Garden, to represent a strengthening of relations between both nations and the close bonds that exist between people from different Latin America countries.

Bridge of Peace

A “Bridge of Peace” sisterhood ceremony was held in the former Argentinian embassy in Montevideo. This ceremony, which promotes mutual understanding among people, was coordinated by Ms. Neme and Mrs. Rosetta Conti, president of WFWP Argentina.

A touching message was given by Mrs. Ezzat Ferabolli, continental president of WFWP. Mrs. Laura Correa de Varga, of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification in Argentina, who showed pictures of these ceremonies held in other countries and Prof. Gloria Miranda, spoke about WFWP’s international activities.

A musical performance was offered by Mrs. Motomi Kawakami, who sang and was accompanied by Prof. Atsue Tsusaka, who played the piano.

At the end of the ceremony, the attendees enjoyed lunch and a performance of Argentinian folk dance by Ambassadors for Peace, Mr. Marcos Daverio and Ms. Elsa Ortíz.
