Ethiopian Leader Addresses Australian Ambassadors for Peace

Sydney, Australia—The June meeting of Sydney Ambassadors for Peace had as its guest speaker a leader of Australia’s Ethiopian community.

For the bimonthly meeting, held on June 1, 2015, at the Oceania Peace Embassy in Sydney, the guest speaker was Assefa Bekele, founder of the Ethiopian Community Association of the state of New South Wales and a multicultural liaison officer with the New South Wales Police.

About 30 Ambassadors for Peace, UPF supporters, members and guests attended this inspiring evening, whose MC was Mrs. Aila Willitts, the president of the New South Wales chapter of UPF sister organization Women’s Federation for World Peace. The meeting featured an Acknowledgment to Country by aboriginal elder Ciaron Dunn.

UPF-Oceania Regional Secretary General Greg Stone acknowledged the UN Global Day of Parents, which was being observed on June 1, as well as Africa Day, which had taken place on May 25.

Five new Ambassadors for Peace, including Assefa Bekele, were appointed. The attendees listened to musical performances by UPF representatives and shared in a light supper.
