Peru Peace Council to Work ‘within Walls and outside Walls’

Lima, Peru—The newly established UPF-Peru Peace Council met to form four committees and to review plans for its work in 2015.

In December 2014 the Peace Council was formed when forty Peruvian Ambassadors for Peace participated in a swearing-in ceremony and signed a pledge of commitment.

On Saturday, March 21, 2015, thirty Peace Council members met at the UPF-Peru headquarters to form four committees: Marriage and Family; Education and Human Development; Peace and Security; and Interreligious Harmony.

The meeting, which was moderated by UPF-Peru Executive Director Dr. Trevor Jones, began with a report of the work of UPF International in 2014 and a PowerPoint presentation about the mission of Ambassadors for Peace.

Each of the four committees then met separately to choose a president and a secretary and to discuss plans and proposals for 2015. Following the discussions, the committees reported back to the general assembly.

One ambassador stressed the need to work in two ways: “within walls and outside walls,” referring, on the one hand, to meetings and forums in the Congress and at UPF headquarters, and, on the other hand, to activities, including education and social work.

Dr. Jones had presented the Peace Council with a tentative schedule of 15 meetings and activities during the year, but with the new ideas this number has increased substantially. At the end of the meeting, it seemed that everyone was very inspired and looking forward to being active in the various areas very soon.
