Exploring the Core Values of a Healthy Society

Copenhagen, Denmark - On May 29, UPF-Denmark convened a one-day conference on the theme, “What are the core values for building a healthy society?" We invited several Ambassadors for Peace and UPF leaders to give presentations.

The conference was divided up into three sections: political and religious perspectives, social and ethical values, and view of life and values. There were four speakers for each session, and each session concluded with a panel discussion and opportunities for questions and answers.

Speakers at the first session included:

  • Psychologist Elin Anderson speaking on "The relevance of Christian values for the individual and society"
  • Mag. Art Mikael Larsen, a specialist in the Hungarian and Finnish languages, speaking on "People without a vision will be misled"
  • Luqman Petersen, Vice principal of a Muslim school in Copenhagen, speaking on "Our schools viewed as communities: From the microcosm to macrocosm"
  • Evangelist and healer René Celinder

Speakers at the second session included:

  • Alim Rafaquat Khan, a Muslim scholar and vice director of a Muslim school in Copenhagen, speaking on “Muslim and Christian visions for schools”
  • Imam Abdul Wahid Petersen, the best-known imam in Denmark, speaking on "Loving thy neighbors according to the Qur'an"
  • Catholic priest Soosaipillai, a parish priest born in Sri Lanka, speaking on “Peace in Justice and Reconciliation”
  • Dr. Carl Ove Jade, Chairman of the Gideon Association in Denmark and Director of a Christian radio station, speaking on "How can we build a God-centered society?”

Speakers at the third session included:

  • Psychotherapist Thomas Andersen, educated as a Gestalt and existential therapist
  • Dr. Farauq Zamani, a medical doctor and Chairman of the society of Afghan refugees in Denmark
  • Dr. Thorkil Christensen, director of a medical clinic in Copenhagen
  • Professor L. Jensen, a Professor of Hebrew in the US
