New Delhi, India—The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee held a special event in India on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Universal Peace Federation.

“Making the World Better for Future Generations: Finding Solutions to Climate Change and World Hunger” was the theme of the program, which took place on November 23, 2015, at the Oberoi Hotel.

More than 120 high-level national and international delegates attended the event. Union Minister for Rural Development Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh was the chief guest, and the guests of honor were Professor Il Sik Hong, chair of the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee; Shri Shyam Jaju, national vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP); Dr. Chung Sik Yong, regional chair, UPF-Asia; and Dr. Robert S. Kittel, director of education for UPF-Asia.

On this occasion five eminent personalities from different fields were awarded certificates as new Ambassadors for Peace: Professor Talat Ahmed, vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia; Professor Sushma Yadav, pro vice chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU); the first Sunhak Peace Prize winner, biologist Dr. Modadugu Vijay Gupta; Shri Vijay Jolly, the president of the Delhi Study Group; and Shri Ashok Thakur, director of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) (nominee, Government of India). This honor was given to these distinguished personalities for their exemplary service to humanity through their respective fields.

The award was presented jointly by the chief guest, Honorable Minister Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh,and the Regional Chair of UPF-Asia Dr. Chung Sik Yong along with Shri Shyam Jaju, national vice president of the BJP, and Shri B.P. Singh, former governor of Sikkim and the chair of UPF-India.

Similarly the Board of Trustees of UPF-India were also presented with a memento of appreciation in honor of their contributions to the establishment of UPF in India over the past 10 years.

Earlier on the same day, UPF delegates paid a courtesy call to Honorable (Mrs.) Sumitra Mahajan, speaker of the Parliament (Lok Sabha) of India, at the office of the speaker of the House.
