Ambassadors for Peace

In Memoriam: Chief Imam Assane Cisse

On August 14, 2008, Chief Imam Sheikh Assane Cisse passed to the spiritual world at the age of 63 in his homeland of Senegal.

Chief Cisse was active in the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace since 2001. The following year he organized a prayer for the marriage blessing of 30,000 couples in his home city of Kaolack in west-central Senegal.

As a member of the Universal Peace Federation's Presiding Council, Chief Cisse attended UPF's international conferences and invested himself to advance its peace programs wherever he went.

He was especially helpful in supporting the UPF in Senegal. He had been scheduled to lead the ceremony to launch the national chapter on May 28, but was unable to attend. He sent his brother and special assistant, Sheikh Djery Cisse, in his place, stating that as long as God granted him life, he would work with UPF to advance world peace.
