Toronto, Canada—UPF-Canada, Central District held its monthly meeting on February 27, 2016. The chapter’s president, Rev. Moonshik Kim, spoke about his recent visit to Korea and the International Leadership Conference (ILC), which took place in Seoul from February 12 to 16. The conference discussed the critical challenges in the present times and the role of governments, civil society and faith-based organizations in addressing them. More than 340 delegates from 60 nations, including more than 140 current parliamentarians, 13 government ministers, and other leading figures in religion, media, academia, civil society and government, attended the conference.
In addition to the ILC program, the delegates participated in three main events: 1) a celebration of the birthdays of UPF Founders, Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon; 2) the founding of the International Parliamentarians Peace Association at the National Assembly, the seat of the Korean government; and 3) the launching of Peace Road 2016 in support of the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea.
Dr. Thomas Walsh, president of UPF International, spoke about recent UPF activities and particularly its successful partnering with such groups as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Engaging Faith-Based Organizations for Development (FBO), the United Religions Initiative (URI), and the Parliament of the World's Religions.
The second half of the monthly meeting focused on an interfaith dialogue UPF will be hosting and that will be aired by public access corporation Rogers TV on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
The faith representatives who will be participating in the dialogue prepared for it by answering such questions as “Who is God to you?” “What is humanity in relationship to God or God's purpose?” “Is it relevant to talk about humanity fulfilling a higher purpose? Do you think relating with other religions will help to achieve that purpose?” “Has UPF aided you in broadening your perspective about other religions?” “Could you define good and evil?”
Representing Unificationism was Dr. R. Thillairajan; representing Catholicism was Rev. Stoyan Tadin, who gave responses on behalf of a Catholic priest; and representing Islam was Auth. Qamrul Khanson. Dr. Hoossen Auckberaullee, Abdul R. Qureshi, Fahmeeda Qureshi, Mukhtar Khokhar and Arooj Rajput also contributed to the discussion.
