Port-au-Prince, Haiti—On the afternoon of December 13, UPF-Haiti organized a special assembly of Ambassadors for Peace, “Let Us Be Builders of Peace,” in Haiti’s capital. Fifty-two people participated in the program, including a congressman, a current and a former mayor, a former minister of education, and a dean of a university, as well as legal, medical, and other professionals.

Mr. Lesly Millien, of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) in Haiti, was the emcee. He welcomed the participants and introduced UPF and its Ambassadors for Peace initiative.

Dr. Chang Shik Yang, also of FFWPU, spoke about how peace in the world begins with oneself and in families.

At the end of the assembly, 13 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed.

Visit to the Site of the UN Headquarters that Collapsed in the 2010 Earthquake

On December 14, Dr. Yang visited the former site of the UN’s headquarters in the country, which collapsed during the 2010 earthquake that killed more than 100,000 people, and offered a prayer to the victims of the disaster.

The UN's chief of mission, Mr. Hédi Annabi; the deputy head, Mr. Luiz Carlos da Costa; and the UN international police commander, Mr. Doug Coates, and more than 100 UN personnel, lost their lives.

On March 18, 2010, UPF held a “Legacy of Peace” program at the UN to honor the life of Mr. Annabi, and seven other prominent individuals associated with UPF who had passed away and whose lives were dedicated to peace.

Meeting with the President of Haiti’s Senate

After visiting the UN headquarters, Dr. Yang met with the president of Haiti’s Senate, Mr. Riche Andris. In their meeting, Mr. Andris expressed a desire to support UPF in its work for peace.
