Empowerment of Women

UPF supports UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for increasing involvement of women in preventing and resolving conflicts, peace negotiations, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction. Furthermore, the majority of the poor people of the world are women and children, and global poverty cannot be solved without the empowerment of women and the leadership of women. Tbilisi, Georgia - On the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Nov. 25, 2011, Young Peace Ambassadors and the school administration organized a program at High School No. 136 in Tbilisi.

Bronx, New York, USA - The Albanian community in the Bronx honored Mother Teresa’s birthday with a food drive held on Mother Teresa Way on August 26 with Albanian businessmen, restaurant owners, community leaders, and children dressed in Albanian traditional participating.

More than 40 women leaders from the Middle East, North Africa, Gulf States, as well as from Europe and Asia, gathered in Thessaloniki, Greece in May 2011 for the fifteenth annual “Women’s Conference on Peace in the Middle East.”

Thessaloniki, Greece - The Women's Federation for World Peace International and its Japanese chapter organized the 15th Conference for Peace in the Middle East in Thessaloniki, Greece from May 24 to 27. Forty women from 20 countries of the Middle East, Europe, and the Far East gathered to discuss the theme "Women in War and Reconstruction."

Kathmandu, Nepal - “Women need to be involved in every area of society, including those more traditionally dominated by men,” Dr. Mohini Giri, Chairwoman of India’s Guild of Service and founding president of the Women's Federation for World Peace-India, told a June 23 forum in Nepal that included four Members of Parliament. She specifically named the legal profession, politics, and economic enterprises.

Sahab, Jordan - A Mothers' Day celebration on April 3 brought together Iraqi women and their families who are living in Jordan. A daughter paid tribute to her mother, and two mothers talked about how they overcame difficult challenges in caring for their families.
