Victoria, Seychelles - UPF-Seychelles commemorated the International Day of Peace on September 25 with a program at the National Theater on the theme "Community Building for the Betterment of the People."

Representatives of NGOs and the private sector, Ambassadors for Peace, teachers, and children attended the event.

The program started at 2:30 pm with a small exhibition of books and posters. This was followed by a variety show and a video presentation about UPF's work for peace to support the United Nations.

In her opening remarks, the chair of UPF-Seychelles, Mrs. Elizabeth, said "Why did we choose to look for other partners to join us? The answer is simple: we have to work together for peace to reign."

After the song "Let There Be Love" sung by school children, a poem was recited, and a local musical group sang. Everything was about promoting peace.

This was followed by a speech by the vice chair of LUNGOS (a national platform for civil society), a reflection and prayer by the bishop, and a speech by the founding president of Seychelles, Sir James Mancham.

Closing remarks were given by the Secretary General of UPF-Seychelles, Mr. Louis Betioux, and the program ended with the song, "Give Peace a Chance."
