Day of Families Observed in Kuala Lumpur Print E-mail

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Malaysians were invited to celebrate the UN International Day of Families in a day of social bonding on May 15 at Taman Bukit Jalil Recreation Park in Kuala Lumpur.

Themed "Confronting Family Poverty and Social Exclusion," the celebration was organized by Universal Peace Federation of Malaysia with co-organizers Malaysian Interfaith Network, Women for Family Welfare Promotion in Selangor and Federal Territory, and HSA of Selangor and Federal Territory. About 200 participants of various ages, ethnic groups, and religions attended. Rev. Sam Yeoh, Secretary General of UPF-Malaysia, read the International Day of Families message by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Tan Sri Dr. Devaki Krishnan, President of UPF-Malaysia, gave a speech on the importance of families.

Activities included a treasure hunt, family games, and musical performances. [For details of the treasure hunt, click here.]

Three reporters from local press came and reported about the program; they were from Chinese, English, and Malay newspapers). Also, the Bernama News interviewed Tan Sri Krishnan.
