Commentary on UPF-Korea's peacebuilding work

Cheongpyeong, Korea - A rally at the Cheongshim Peace Center on November 24 marked the seventh anniversary of UPF in Korea. Mrs. Hak Ja Han Moon, Co-founder of UPF, encouraged the audience to honor heaven, live in gratitude, and work for peace.

Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Universal Peace Federation, died on September 3 in South Korea. He was 92. He passed away at 1:54 a.m. local time from complications of pneumonia, surrounded by family, friends, and followers. A memorial service, celebrating his life and legacy, took place in Korea on September 15. See highlights of Rev. Moon's life, an obituary in The Washington Times, and messages of condolence.

It’s often said that you really know who your friends are in a time of crisis, and the more than 300 UPF Ambassadors for Peace who made the long journey to Korea to attend the memorial services for Father Moon on September 15 proved that we are more than just friends: we are indeed one family under God. Over a course of three days, the UPF group shared tears, memories, determination, and also plenty of laughter and smiles as we comforted each other and shared testimony as to the many, many ways that this extraordinary man of God had touched all our lives.

Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the international religious leader and founder of the Unification Church and the Universal Peace Federation was laid to rest on September 15 in a series of moving ceremonies held in the mountainous countryside just outside Seoul that Father Moon loved so much in life.

"After meeting three former popes and former presidents of various nations including President Nelson Mandela, I had an opportunity to meet with Rev. Sun Myung Moon and the peace movement in Korea. He said to me that, since football is the largest organization in the world and a very important means of propagating the message of peace, I hold a great responsibility."

Pyongyang, North Korea - UPF International Chair Hyung Jin Moon visited Pyongyang on September 7, a week before the memorial services for his father, Dr. Sun Myung Moon, to accept condolences from relatives residing in North Korea. The North also awarded Dr. Sun Myung Moon posthumously what it calls the National Reunification Prize in recognition of his contribution to inter-Korean reconciliation and unity, which was presented to his son.

Cheongpyeong, Korea - Korean government officials and Members of Congress were among the first visitors to pay their respects on September 6 to the Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, who died September 3 and whose body lies in a memorial chapel at the Cheon Jeong Goong (Peace Palace) in the mountains east of Seoul.

Cheongpyeong, Korea - The founders of UPF, Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon, called for a new era of women’s leadership for peace during an assembly hosted by the Women’s Federation for World Peace International in the Cheongshim Peace Center in South Korea on July 16.

Seoul, Korea - An International Day of Families program for diplomats took place at the Unificationism building in Seoul on May 19.
