On January 21, 2009, a workshop about coordinating volunteer efforts for peace and development was held at the headquarters of the Universal Peace Federation in Tegucigalpa.

This participatory workshop was held to prepare the annual operating plan of the nation's network of volunteer organizations linked to the United Nations. Representatives of 30 organizations were present on this occasion. These organizations promote volunteerism and mobilize volunteers to carry out activities for peace and development, since achieving the Millennium Development Goals will require the ingenuity, solidarity, and creativity of thousands of people doing voluntary service.

The Universal Peace Federation will be in charge of developing a workshop on peace addressing the following topics:

• Education for Peace
• Human Rights
• Media for Peace
• Family
• Youth Participation
• Volunteering for Peace

The Honduran network of organizations is currently developing a proposal on the theme "Volunteer Honduras" that will be submitted to Congress for discussion and approval.
