15. November 2009 – Austrian-Slovakian Friendship Meeting - 20 Years Fall of the Iron Curtain: UPF Austria in cooperation with UPF Slovakia organized a meeting of Ambassadors for Peace and guests from Slovakia and Austria in order to get to know each other´s activities while talking about possible future cooperation.
15/17. May 2009 – UN International Day of Families: A lecture and a round table discussion were organized by UPF in Vienna on May 15th 2009. A second event commemorating the International Day of families was an Interreligious Sunday Service on the 17th of May 2009.
8. April 2009 – Reconciliation and the Role of Global Peace Festivals: Three hundred participants and civil society leaders representing more than 40 NGOs, gathered in one of the largest NGO conferences ever held in the United Nations building in Vienna, in the UNIDO Board Room, to attend the Austrian event of the Global Peace Tour 2009.
3. November 2008 – Mongol Costumes – Fashion Show: Mongol Costumes presented their show three times in Vienna as ambassadors for their culture while the 3rd Convention of World Mongolians was held in Vienna. The focus of this gathering, according to officials, was seeking ways to protect the Mongolian language, culture and customs, improve Mongolia's educational system and boost the industrial and tourism industries in Mongolia.
21. September 2008 - Interreligious service - International Day of Peace: After words of introduction explaining the history of this special UN Day, the message of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was read, where he noted that the International Day takes on special meaning this year because 2008 also marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  …
5. April 2008 - Intercultural Family Day: Dr. Walter Baar, an advisor to the Austrian parliament on family matters, spoke about "Perspectives on Austrian Family Politics“.   …
July 2007 - Building Bridges to Bethlehem: 13 Palestinian youths from the Centre for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation in Bethlehem had a chance to spend the first two weeks of July in Austria.
24. June 2007 - Compassion and Universal Responsibility: Mrs. Zöchbauer, the founder of the Tibetan Community in Austria, explained the meaning of “Compassion,” “Not being attached to material things,” and “Universal responsibility” from the viewpoint of Buddhism.   …

April 2007 - Chinese Culture - At the Beginning there was Confucius: At an evening about Chinese culture we realized the growing interest of the Viennese people in Confucianism and Chinese culture. More than 100 guests came to listen to a lecture by Mr. Jia Jianxin, Cultural attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Vienna.   …

April 2007 - The Holy Mountain of Athos and a spirituality open for the world’s religions: Dr. Heinz Gstrein, an Orthodox theologian from Tyrol, living in Zürich, Switzerland, an orientalist and author of several books, introduced to the audience the life on the holy mountain of Athos, located on the peninsula of Chalkidike in the north of Greece.   …

December 2006 - True Family Awards Banquet: The Universal Peace Federation in Austria invited their guests for a Christmas Celebration and the True Family Awards Banquet 2006 organized by the Family Federation. Such a banquet was the first of its kind in Austria and also Europe, following a 10-year-long tradition in the United States.   …
22. Sept. 2006 - International Day of Peace - Day of Solidarity with Somalian people: People of the Horn of Africa Countries (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibuti, Somalia, and Sudan) celebrated the International Day of Peace by showing their solidarity with the people of Somalia.   …
July 2006 - Building Bridges between Austria and Palestine – There is an alternative to war and terror: The Federation for World Peace invited young Palestinians aged 14 to 18 from East Jerusalem for a summer recreation camp during the second week of July 2006. "We want to show our guests from Palestine that there is an alternative to war and terror," said Erni Loos in an interview with APA, the Austrian Press agency.   …

International Youth Day Observed in Vienna

Brazilian Singer Gives Christmas Concert in Vienna

Vienna, Austria - UPF-Austria hosted an international Christmas party on December 19 featuring Brazilian singer Denise de Macedo. She sang Christmas songs from South and North America and Russia as well as Germany. Peter Haider and Dr. Leo Gabriel reported about the local and international activities of UPF throughout the year. After presentation of Ambassador for Peace certificates, a buffet of Christmas specialties was served.

In today’s interdependent world no nation or group of nations can secure its own prosperity. We are dependent upon each other. Without cooperation with Africa, Europe will not manage to face its challenges. The political developments allow hope that the times of the violent African rulers are ending. Even more, Africa has re-entered the world stage as a participant in the global future. China is already in strategic dialogue with Africa. The West should do the same. It is time to see Africa with different eyes, from a different perspective. It is a continent of the future.
